Olympic and world 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen has confirmed his participation in the 2024 European Cross Country Championships, scheduled for December 8 in Antalya, Turkey. After missing last year’s event in Brussels due to injury, the Norwegian standout is eager to return to the prestigious competition.

From his training base, Ingebrigtsen expressed his anticipation, stating on Instagram: “Only 19 days until the European Cross Country Championships in Antalya! Very excited to race such a prestigious event with a strong Norwegian team.”

A dominant force in the sport, Ingebrigtsen claimed the under-20 title at the European Cross Country Championships four times from 2016 to 2019. Following the pandemic, he transitioned to the senior ranks and secured back-to-back titles in 2021 in Dublin and 2022 in Turin.

The Antalya competition will also feature top European athletes, including Italy’s Yeman Crippa and Nadia Battocletti, France’s Jimmy Gressier, and the Netherlands’ rising star Niels Laros. The British team, expected to include top contenders such as Hugo Milner, Zak Mahamed, Will Barnicoat, Abbie Donnelly, Kate Axford, Jess Warner-Judd, and Innes FitzGerald, will be finalized after the trials in Liverpool this weekend.

With an elite lineup of competitors and Ingebrigtsen’s return, the event is shaping up to be an unmissable showcase of cross-country excellence.
