Abdi Nageeye set a new benchmark for Dutch runners, achieving a remarkable time of 2:04:45 in the Rotterdam Marathon, while Ashete Bekere of Ethiopia claimed victory in the women's event with a time of 2:19:30. The marathon, distinguished as a World Athletics Gold Label road race, unfolded on Sunday.

German winners Amanal Petros and Domenika Mayer smashed the course records at the ADAC Marathon Hannover. Defending champion Petros improved his own course best of 2:07:02 from last year by almost one minute, winning in 2:06:05 despite windy conditions and warm sunshine during the final part of the race. Petros, who is the national record holder with 2:04:58, ran the second fastest time ever achieved by a German marathon runner. Kenyans Boaz Kipkemei and Victor Kiplimo took second and third with 2:07:06 and 2:09:58 respectively.

A line-up of world-class fields were today released for the Yangtze River Delta Athletics Diamond Gala on April 27 in Shanghai/Suzhou, the second fixture in the 2024 Diamond League season. For one star-studded Saturday, over 25 world and Olympic champions will go toe-to-toe, writing the early script to an Olympic summer.

Last week (23/3), major athletics returned to ES Marks Field in Sydney for the first time in three decades with the Chemist Warehouse Track Classic, where a surprisingly big crowd saw some of the nation's finest young athletes competing in what turned out be a fascinating night, and fans witnessed some of the best performances of the season, with a number of current and future stars of the sport on display.
