Kenya broke the world record in the infrequently run men’s 4×1500 metres relay, clocking 14 minutes 22.22 seconds at the IAAF World Relays on Sunday.
The team, with double world champion Asbel Kiprop on anchor, eclipsed the previous world record of 14:36.23 a Kenyan team set in 2009.
The United States finished a distant second in a national-record of 14:40.80, while Ethiopia finished third in 14:41.22, just under five seconds ahead of Australia.
The Australian team – made up of Collis Birmingham, Sam McEntee, Jordan Williamsz and Ryan Gregson – also came home in a national-record time of 14:46.04.
That broke the previous record, which both Gregson and Birmingham helped set in 2009.
