Shelby Houlihan secured a spot at the World Indoor Championships after finishing second in the 3000m at the U.S. trials, marking her return from a four-year doping ban. Once a top U.S. medal hopeful, she missed the last two Olympics after testing positive for an anabolic steroid, a result she attributed to eating a pork burrito. Despite the controversy, Houlihan received a warm welcome from the crowd and led much of the race before Nikki Hiltz edged her out in a sprint finish. Hiltz, last year’s 1500m world indoor silver medalist, declined a spot at the championships, with third-place finisher Whittni Morgan next in line. Houlihan acknowledged she may face tougher receptions in future races but said she feels ready for it.
