Teenage sprint sensation Gout Gout continued his strong form by winning the under-20 100m title at the Queensland Athletics Championships in Brisbane. The 17-year-old clocked 10.39 seconds in his heat and 10.38 seconds in the final, despite being in the middle of a heavy training block ahead of the Maurie Plant meet on March 29.
Gout, who set an Australian 200m record three months ago, has a wind-assisted PB of 10.04s and a legal best of 10.17s, putting him in contention for the World Championships in Japan this September.
However the world junior silver medallist was upstaged by two-time Olympian Rohan Browning who slipped into Brisbane to post his fastest-ever season opener.
Making a cameo in the men’s 100m B final, Browning posted a sizzling 10.12 seconds.
