Despite his immense success, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has yet to claim a world title in the 1500 meters, a goal he is determined to achieve this season at both the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing and the Outdoor World Championships in Tokyo. The Norwegian, who won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021, has consistently finished second in major outdoor events, losing to Jake Wightman in 2022 and Josh Kerr in 2023. He also secured silver at the 2022 World Indoors but missed last year’s competition due to injury.

This season, Ingebrigtsen has been in exceptional form, breaking world records in the mile and 1500 meters in France in February and securing another 1500-3000 double at the European Championships. He thrives on competition, stating that the challenge of racing keeps him focused and disciplined in training. In Nanjing, he aims to become only the second athlete, after Haile Gebrselassie in 1999, to complete the 1500-3000 double at the World Indoors.

Looking ahead, Ingebrigtsen is also considering transitioning to longer-distance events, both on the track and the road. However, his immediate focus remains on securing gold in the 1500 meters and proving that he is the world’s best at his signature distance. Confident in his abilities, he believes that as long as he performs at his absolute best, victory will follow.
