I’ve been up here at Mt. Laguna for 10 days now. We are at about 1800m altitude and this place is extremely hilly. I’m here with Collis Birmingham, Ben St. Lawrence, Jeff Riseley, Jack Bolas, our coach Nic Bideau and our assistant Garry Henry. Mt. Laguna is only about 30 minutes from the outskirts of San Diego but up here it’s pretty quiet. You see the odd coyote and Collis even spotted a bobcat the other day. ryan gregsonThe weathers been pretty good – shirts off most days. We do most of our running on single file mountainous trails and then to do a threshold run we do a lap of a nearby meadow, and then for track sessions we either go to a high school track at about 1200m altitude or another one at sea level to do quality workouts. I love Falls Creek because it’s Australia and I can drive there but based purely on running this place wins hands down. I’m here for another few weeks and then I will race at the Prefontaine Classic.

Before getting here at Mt. Laguna I had the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Our Distance Medley Relay team of Sean Wroe, Lachlan Renshaw, Jeff Riseley and myself ended up finishing a close 2nd by 0.08 seconds to Morocco. We beat the Kenyans, Ethiopians and the USA so we can hold our heads high. The DMR goes 1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m. I ran the 1200m and split 2:48.6 which was much faster than I thought I could move in my first race back from injury. Good signs for the year ahead.

The song I’ve been listening to on replay lately is ‘C’Mon by Tiesto vs. Diplo’. I’m sure a few of you festival heads have heard of it but it’s pretty aggressive. I love it.
