Mark your calendars for the exhilarating 2024 Boston Marathon, slated to unfold on Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 15. Athletes will charge from the starting line starting at 9:02 a.m., with the men's wheelchair division igniting the action, followed by waves of participants until 11:15 a.m. The frontrunners from the professional men's and women's divisions are anticipated to triumphantly cross the finish line around 11:45 a.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.
On Tuesday, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) announced the provisional suspension of 33 athletes for violating anti-doping rules. This marks an unprecedented number of suspensions, with 26 track and field athletes, including reigning Amsterdam Marathon champion Joshua Belet, among those sanctioned. The remaining suspended athletes come from basketball (3), rugby (3), and handball (1).
Kenyan marathon runner Lawrence Cherono has been handed a seven-year ban for violating anti-doping regulations. The 35-year-old athlete was initially suspended for four years after testing positive for a banned substance. An additional four years were added for attempting to tamper with or mislead the investigation, but this was reduced by one year due to Cherono’s early admission and acceptance of the sanctions.
