Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele claimed his first Tokyo Marathon title with a personal-best 2:03:23, pulling away at the 38 km mark to finish ahead of compatriot Deresa Geleta and Kenya’s Vincent Kipkemoi. In the women’s race, defending champion Sutume Kebede secured victory in 2:16:31, followed by Kenya’s Winfridah Moraa and Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa. Japan’s Tsubasa Ichiyama was the top local finisher in 10th place (2:06:00), while Yuka Ando led the Japanese women in 11th (2:23:11). The race also served as a selection event for Japan’s team at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
