Matt Clarke came close to the steeplechase qualifier once again, running 8:22.13 on the Gold Coast, shaving nearly half a second off his previous attempt to solidify his place as 4th fastest Australian, however not a certainty to be selected for Tokyo based on rankings. Clarke later in the week ran 8:35 in Adelaide, again paced by Max Stevens.
