Jack Rayner and Sinead Diver Win Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k

Australia’s strongest men’s 10k field in years gathered for the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k where Jack Rayner won in 28:59 ahead of fellow competitor, Jordan Gusman who finished in second place in 29:08. Third place was taken out by Rory Hunter in 29:13.

Sinead Diver led the women’s field in 32:43, followed by Emily Brichacek in 33:12 and third place went to Paige Campbell 33:17.

The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 5k men’s race was taken out by Luke Hince in 16:02 and Jenny Doak won the women’s event in 19:51.

More than 7,000 runners registered for the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k, in what is generally accepted as the most spectacular 5k and 10k course in the country.

Starting at the historic Sydney Rocks, the 10k course was a one lap loop which hugged the harbour foreshore travelling along Hickson Rd, through Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont, through the stunning Barangaroo parklands and back into The Rocks to the finish line at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.

The 5K course also took in some of Sydney’s most beautiful sights. The course started at George Street, the Rocks, continued around the edge of Sydney Harbour, under the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge before an out and back section along Hickson Road and back into The Rocks to the finish line at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.

2018 Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k Men’s winner Jack Rayner said it was a great race.

“I’ve done a few road races in the last few months, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull up but over the moon to get the win,” said Jack

“The first five kms were a bit slow but the second half of the race was faster. I stuck with Jordan in the last few kms and just got the better of him in the last little bit,” said Jack.

2018 Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k Women’s winner Sinead Diver was delighted with her race.

“That was awesome. What a beautiful course. The girls were hot on my heels but I took advantage of a slight rise in the road and pulled away,” said Sinead.

Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k Event Director Wayne Larden said the event has gone extremely well in clear, sunny conditions.

“It’s fantastic to see one of the strongest Australian men’s 10k fields on the course today,” said Wayne Larden.

“The flat and fast course continues to deliver a terrific experience for both elite and everyday runners out for a fantastic way to get fit and enjoy what is undoubtedly the most spectacular 5k and 10k course in the country.

“We have almost 25% growth in entries this year which is incredible, I’ve never seen that sort of growth in an established running event. Which is testament to the fantastic course, beautiful Sydney and a running / jogging experience you can’t get anywhere else in the country.”
