24 year-old Jordan Gusman has continued his stellar form, in winning the Southern Cross University 10km on the Gold Coast this morning.
Gusman, sponsored by Saucony and Bankstown Sports Athletics Club, took the race on from gun to tape, leading by 250m for the majority of race, Gusman clipped through the first 5km in 14:15, then held on to stop the clock at 28:42, breaking Michael Shelley’s course record by close to 10 seconds.
“I went flat out, from the start I just went as hard as possible and didn’t worry about anyone else, just myself. I’m not sure how far they were behind me, I was alone the entire race, it was rough, but I felt good, I felt like I could have gone quicker over that final 2km if someone was challenging me, I have more in me, heaps more.”

Gusman has been hard to beat of late and has showed off his impressive versatility from the Mile to 10km. At the Leonora Golden Mile on June 1, he also led from gun to tape, making short work of athletes of the calibre of James Hansen, James Nipperess and Matthew Ramsden. Then at the NSW Long Course Cross Country Championships one week ago, Gusman dispatched with another classy field, comfortably beating home Ed Goddard and Australian 10,000m record holder Ben St Lawrence.
Gusman looks to take his form to the streets of Sydney, and will line up as one of the main favourites in the country’s biggest footrace, the City to Surf.
“I’m looking forward to the City to Surf. It’ll be very very hard to win, the hills are tough, but I’m strong, in the form of my life, and I’ll have a crack.”
However, the big dance in Sydney is just one of many races on Gusman’s 2018 winter calendar. Other races on the line-up include the NSW Short Course XC Titles (July 8), the Sutherland to Surf (July 22), the Sydney Harbour 10k (July 29), the Bridge to Brisbane (August 26), Mitchell Street Mile (Sep 16), Burnie 10 (Oct 21). Gusman’s 2018 calendar will culminate at the Zatopek:10 in December.
