Following his victory at the Parish Games, Alex Yee has revealed that he is far from being done. While talking to The Guardian, the 25-year-old Britain promising star says he’s joining the elite field for the London Marathon coming up in April 2025. He further revealed that he has signed up for the event and will be completing the marathon in 2:07. Suffice to state that only two of Britain’s brightest stars, Emile Cairess and Mo Farah, have achieved this record.
Yee believed that the London Marathon would be a big challenge for him because he had just six months to prepare for the event. However, he emphasized that he is ready to give it all it takes. He will be finishing the marathon between 2:07 and 2:10.
Of course, Yee has a great history in running, dating back to his teenage years. For example, he finished third during the 2013 Mini London Marathon when he was only 15. He represented his country, Britain, at the 2018 European Athletics Championships, where he finished 14th in the 10,000 meters.
In preparation for this big event, Yee said he’s raising the bar in his training, running 90 miles per week henceforth, compared to his usual 60-mile routine. In addition to this, he’ll also continue swimming and cycling so he can maintain his fitness for the marathon.
According to Yee, the physical demands are not his biggest challenge but the required muscular endurance to pull through the marathon. He elaborated more on this by stating, “The top guys are running 120 miles a week and I can’t match that. So, how will my legs hold up at 35 kilometres, when the real race just begins?” He stated that he had seen many great athletes “humbled in their first marathon.” He admitted that it could be him, but he is preparing as best as he could and hoping to be “part of a historic day.”

The Olympic triathlon champion is not only in the news for his marathon preparation. He is also celebrating his BBC nomination for the Sports Personality of the Year award. Without a doubt, Yee’s 2024 performances have been extraordinary, with him winning an Olympic gold medal, a bronze in the mixed relay, and a world championship title in the triathlon series.
This recognition has brought Yee unexpected moments, such as having school kids cheering him up when they saw his Olympic victory clips during his visit to schools. While talking about his memorable win at the Paris Game, Yee revealed remembering feeling like he was giving everything but not making progress in the competition. Then all of a sudden, the huge gap didn’t seem so impossible. According to him, “It was one of those surreal moments.”
Yee has been surprised by how much his victory has inspired others. His humility and determination will undoubtedly come into play as he prepares for the marathon on April 27, 2025.
