Matt Richtman made history by becoming the first American man in 31 years to win the Los Angeles Marathon, finishing in 2:07:56. The Illinois native celebrated with an American flag after crossing the line.

Richtman edged out Kenya’s Athanas Kioko (2:10:55) and Mose Kiptoo (2:13:13) in a competitive field. He credited the crowd’s energy and his strategic pacing for the victory, calling the win a “surprise.”

On the women’s side, Ethiopia’s Tejinesh Gebisa Tulu took the title in 2:30:16.
