After missing Olympic selection for Paris 2024, 18-year-old Cameron Myers delivered a powerful statement by winning the 1500m title at the 2025 Australian Athletics Championships in Perth. He took control of the race early and never looked back, clocking 3:34.39 to defeat Olympic picks Adam Spencer (3:34.57) and Oliver Hoare (3:34.61).

Myers, previously snubbed despite strong credentials, used the disappointment as fuel. Now a top contender for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Myers said he’s grown in confidence and no longer feels intimidated racing his idols like Hoare and McSweyn.

Meanwhile, Jessica Hull won the women’s 1500m in a tactically slow race, kicking hard over the last lap to take victory in 4:11.36, narrowly beating Sarah Billings and Georgia Griffith. Hull called it a “very strange race” but executed her move with precision in the final 100m.

The performances marked a turning point for Myers and confirmed Hull’s continued dominance, as both athletes now look toward Tokyo in September.
