A blend of youth and experience will lead Australia into the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September, with several standout performances earning spots on the national squad.

Among those confirmed is 17-year-old sprinter Gout Gout, who claimed his first national title in Perth with a wind-assisted 19.84 seconds in the 200 metres — the second-fastest time ever by an under-20 athlete under all conditions.

Joining him in the youth ranks is 18-year-old Cameron Myers, who won the 1500m at nationals and earlier this year ran a 3:47.48 mile at the Millrose Games — the fastest indoor mile ever recorded by an under-20 athlete.

Tokyo 800m finalist Peter Bol also returns to the world stage after setting a new Australian record of 1:43.79 in Perth. Meanwhile, former world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Eleanor Patterson is set to compete in the high jump, fresh off a silver medal at the World Indoors in March, finishing behind fellow Australian Nicola Olyslagers.
