This is absolutely moving ⚡ — Rose Davies has rewritten the Australian record books again, slicing 1.55 seconds off the national women’s 10,000m mark at the Bislett Games in Oslo on 11 June 2025. The 25-year-old clocked 30:34.11 to finish fourth, eclipsing Lauren Ryan’s previous record of 30:35.66, set just 15 months earlier in San Juan Capistrano.

How the race unfolded

The women’s 10,000m was held on the Wednesday “preview night” of the Bislett Games — a day before the main Diamond League schedule — and featured a stacked international field. A strong early pace, driven by pacemakers targeting sub-30:30, stretched the pack into single file before halfway.

In the closing kilometre, Ethiopia’s Yenawa Nbret (30:28.82) pulled clear to take the win, ahead of Miriam Chebet (30:32.90) and Chaltu Dida (30:33.86). Davies held her own just behind the East African trio, pulling away from Norwegian star Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal to finish a clear fourth — and in doing so, claim the new Australian record.

Why it matters

  • Davies’ 30:34.11 not only breaks the national record but also easily clears Athletics Australia’s World Championships standard of 31:25.00 for Tokyo 2025.

  • She now holds Australian records at both 5000m (14:40.83) and 10,000m — underlining her position as the country’s premier distance runner.

  • The performance puts her provisionally 11th on the 2025 world list, a significant benchmark just a year out from the Paris Olympics.

What’s next

Davies is expected to race the 5000m at the Stockholm Diamond League on 15 June, sharpening her speed before heading to St Moritz for altitude training in July. With this trajectory, an Olympic-year sub-30:30 performance is now well within reach.
