Runners from over 60 countries have created unprecedented demand to face the starter’s gun at the 2026 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, with records broken across the board after entries were officially opened yesterday.

More than 33,000 registrations were received within the first 24 hours after going on sale at 9am AEST yesterday, signalling the continuation of strong growth across all race categories.

The 2026 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon will boast the largest field in the event’s history after selling out within eight hours of going on sale, even after organisers increased numbers by over 20 per cent on 2025.

Entries for the China Airlines Half Marathon were sold out within 2.5 hours of going on sale.

Registrations were received from a record 60 countries, building on the benchmark set last year when participants from 50 countries helped contribute to a record $65.67 million tourism and economic impact for the Gold Coast and Queensland.

The opening response builds on the significant momentum generated in 2025 when the event recorded the largest fields in its 45-year history with 39,000 participants.

Last year’s ASICS Gold Coast Marathon attracted more than 15,000 participants, with a further 10,000 runners contesting the China Airlines Half Marathon.

Events Management Queensland CEO Ben Mannion said the 2026 registration launch again highlighted the event’s global reach and importance to the region.

“The early interest for 2026 is extremely strong and reflects the continued growth of the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon as one of the world’s leading road races,” said Mannion.

“The record-breaking participation levels and economic outcomes achieved in 2025 set a new benchmark for the event, and the early registration numbers suggest we are well positioned for another record-breaking year.

“Events such as this deliver substantial benefits to local businesses, accommodation providers and tourism operators, while also showcasing Queensland as a premier global destination for major events.”

Mannion said the demand from interstate and international runners continues to grow, reinforcing the event’s role in promoting the Gold Coast on the world stage.

“In 2025, more than half of all participants travelled from outside Queensland, demonstrating the event’s significant tourism value and this year we have already received entries from a record 60 countries,” he said.

“Participants still wanting to take part in the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon or China Airlines Half Marathon can do so via our Charity Place Entries, which offers a limited number of entries in exchange for a minimum amount raised for our charity partners.”

To secure a Charity Place, applicants must raise at least $2,000 for one of our charity partners. These vital funds will help our charities continue their incredible work, delivering essential services, advancing research, and providing crucial support within our communities.
