New footage has surfaced contradicting Alaila Everett’s claim that striking rival Kaelen Tucker with a baton during a Virginia State Indoor Championships relay race was an accident. Everett originally stated she lost balance and unintentionally hit Tucker, but the new video shows her deliberately swinging her arm outside normal running motion to strike her opponent.

Everett, who was running for Norcom High School, has since been charged with assault and battery. Tucker suffered a concussion and a possible skull fracture from the incident. Despite the severity of the injury, Everett and her team did not check on or apologize to Tucker post-race, upsetting her family.

A lip-reader analysis suggests Everett said “Get off” and “hey oh” before striking Tucker. The Tucker family has filed a protective order, and Everett awaits a court date. The incident led to Norcom High School’s disqualification from the race.
