On April 6, Sabastian Sawe of Kenya dazzled the crowd with an unmatched feat of athleticism as he raced through the streets of Prague for the Half Marathon. Sawe’s outstanding performance not only earned him a decisive victory but also cemented his record-breaking time of 58 minutes and 24 seconds into the event’s books of history.
Having previously triumphed at the World Half Marathon Championship in Riga, Sawe’s dominance on the Prague course was evident from the outset. Breaking away from the pack early on, the 29-year-old showcased his exceptional skill, crossing the 10-kilometer mark in a staggering 27 minutes and 32 seconds. With each stride, he extended his lead, ultimately finishing more than a minute ahead of his closest competitor.
Reflecting on his achievement, Sawe expressed his delight, remarking, “I am thrilled to have achieved a personal best and to have set a new race record. The course was perfect, and the support from the fans was incredible.” Praising the beauty of Prague and the encouragement of the spectators, Sawe attributed his success to the unique atmosphere of the event.
Meanwhile, in the women’s race, Ethiopian athlete Gete Alemayechu Teklemichael emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in 68 minutes and 10 seconds. Teklemichael’s triumph over her competitors, including Kenyan runner Jesca Chelangat, demonstrated her determination and skill on the challenging course.
