Women's 400m hurdling has seen a fantastic turnaround in the last few months, and American Sydney McLaughlin has been at the forefront. The 21-year-old became the first woman ever to run the 400-metre hurdles in under 52 seconds with a time of 51.90, inevitably landing her the National title at Hayward Field.
Sydney, Australia; March 13 2021 –  It was a night for the history books at the Sydney Track Classic as world and national records tumbled, Tokyo qualifying standards were set and Australian 5000m national titles were won. Setting the tone for the night was Michael Roeger (SA, Philo Saunders) who in blistering heat ran 14.00.25 to break the 5000m T46 world record. Placing third in the 5000m Open B Final, Roeger slashed more than six seconds off his previous world record set in 2018.
Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei showcased her unparalleled prowess in the Lisbon Half Marathon, claiming a resounding victory on Sunday. Remaining true to her pledge of triumph, Kosgei delivered a standout performance, leaving her competitors trailing in her wake. While she narrowly missed breaking the course record, her clocking of 1:05:51 secured her a significant lead, with over three minutes ahead of her nearest rival.
Australia's leading middle distance runner Stewart McSweyn has posted another impressive run at the London Diamond League clocking  13:05.48 for 4th. Fellow Aussie Patrick Tiernan finished in 8th with 13:12.68 and 4-time NCAA champion Morgan McDonald finished in 9th with 13:18.91. Both Tiernan and McDonald posted A qualifying times for the Doha World Championships in a few months time.   Australia had three other starters in the race; Brett Robinson finished 13th in 13:39, Sam McEntee 16th in 13:55 and the Australian champion, Jordan Gusman, DNF'd.
Stewart McSweyn has made history by becoming the first Australian to break the 3:30 barrier for the 1500m at the Monaco Diamond League. He has done what huge names such as Ryan Gregson, Simon Doyle and Craig Mottram could not, break 3:30 for 1500m. McSweyn clocked 3:29.51 to smash his own PB by a second and break Nick Willis's Oceania record (3:29.66)
On Wednesday and Friday evening (1/9 & 3/9) in Brussels, athletics aficionados were treated to another fabulous night's action at the famous Boudewijnstadion for the 45th Van Damme Memorial Meeting.
Australia will field one of its strongest line-ups in athletics history, when a team of 67 don the green and gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19-27.

The pinnacle event for school-aged athletes, the 2022 Australian All Schools Championships will be the biggest edition of the Championships yet, with more than 1,200 athletes from all States and Territories showcasing their abilities from this Friday to Sunday, in team-based competition.
