West Australian Peter Bol has broken the Australian 800m record at the Tokyo Olympics. Running in heat 1, Bol sat in second for most of the race, and finished strong crossing the line also in second.  Easing up over the line, Bol still managed to break the Australian 800m record clocking 1:44.13.  Not hard to see Bol dipping significantly under 1:44.00 in either the semi-final or final.
Distance runners looking to qualify for the Paris Olympics in midsummer next year get two early opportunities in the United Arab Emirates, with the Dubai Marathon opening the athletics year on January 7, followed by the Ras Al Khaimah half-marathon, now under the same management, on February 24.
World and Olympic 800-meter champion Athing Mu will return to the track after an 11-month absence. The USATF NYC Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium announced that Mu will compete in the 800 meters on Saturday.
