Olympic 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet, former 800m Wanda Diamond League champion Mary Moraa, and 400m hurdles silver medallist Karsten Warholm are set to showcase their talents at the upcoming Weltklasse Zurich meet, the second-to-last event in this year’s Wanda Diamond League series.
Chebet, who secured gold in both the 5000m and 10,000m at the Paris Olympics, is returning to Zurich, where she previously won the Diamond League 5000m title in 2022. Her goal is to book her spot in this year’s final in Brussels. She will be competing against a strong field that includes Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu and Norway’s Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal, both of whom are also striving for enough points to secure their places in the final.
Norwegian star Karsten Warholm is also aiming for a return to his winning form, as he seeks his first Diamond League title since 2021. Warholm, who won silver behind U.S. competitor Rai Benjamin at the Olympics, will go head-to-head with 2022 Diamond League champion and Paris bronze medallist Alison Dos Santos. This matchup will take place just a day after Warholm’s special 100m exhibition race against pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis.
In the women’s 800m event, reigning world champion and 2022 Diamond League victor Mary Moraa will face off against Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma. While Moraa has already clinched her spot in the final thanks to her recent win in Lausanne, Duguma needs a strong performance in Zurich to move into a qualifying position.
The Wanda Diamond League is renowned as the leading one-day athletics series, featuring 15 elite events in global track and field. Athletes compete across 14 series meetings, earning points to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which is set to take place in Brussels on September 13-14.
