Track & Field

Good riddance Covid, and welcome back to elite interstate stars to one of the most iconic middle distance events on the annual calendar.  $7000 and a one ounce gold nugget is once again up for grabs, with the top-8 finishers all receiving prize money. Below is your preview for the 2022 Leonora Golden Gift elite mile races.
Jessica Hull has continued her good form placing second at the Birmingham DL overnight in the women's 1500m.  Hull clocked 4:03.42, to finish just behind England's Olympic 1500m silver medalist, Laura Muir.
Australia's fastest ever 800m runner, Peter Bol, has finished second at the Doha Diamond League Friday night. Bol clocked 1:49.35 in a tactical affair, in quite windy conditions. Bol beat home some huge names for his first ever Diamond League podium finish.
Six athletes, five Olympians, and four national record holders. Whichever way you want to put it, the 2022 Wanda Diamond League in Doha this Friday features some of Australia’s finest track and field talent – set to do battle at the first leg of the world’s premier annual athletics series.
The Colombian city of Cali will be the place to be for junior track and field athletes come August, with 60 future stars of Australian athletics set to compete at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships from 1-6 August.
Three more Australian track and field athletes are Oregon bound, with Tokyo Olympic bronze medallists Kelsey-Lee Barber and Ash Moloney, as well as World Athletics Indoor Championships silver medallist Eleanor Patterson named as the newest additions to the Australian team heading to the World Athletics Championships this July.
Viewers of the recent world indoor championships may have noticed the take-off board in the horizontal jumps was an official-free zone. No-one  standing there as the athlete sprinted down the runway and launched into the jump, then peering closely (and theatrically) at the board for an incriminating toe-mark in the plasticine and raising a white (for a valid jump) or a red flag (foul, there was nothing).
The sun failed to shine for the 2022 Chemist Warehouse Brisbane Track Classic but Australia’s top track and field talent and some international visitors brought light to the afternoon with strong performances seen across the board.
Some of Australia's best track and field talent will gather this Friday at Queensland Sport and Athletic Centre (QSAC) to put their finishing touches on their preparation ahead of Saturday's Brisbane Track Classic.
