At 19 years of age, Sydneysider, Steve Solomon was Australia’s youngest athletics competitor in London. He produced several outstanding performances including a new personal best in the 400m with a time of 44.97 seconds in the semi-final; he became the first Australian male to make a 400m final since Darren Clark in 1988 and he finished eighth in the 400m final in a time of 45.14 seconds. He went on to finish fifth in the heat of the 4x400m relay as a part of the Australian team.
