SYDNEY– Thousands of runners took to the streets of Western Sydney this morning, taking part in the extraordinary community fun run, NAB RunWest.  Following a turbulent year in 2020, the Western Sydney community turned out in force, with over 4,000 participants crossing the finish line, marking the largest mass participation event in Australia since the pandemic first hit.
It's one of the most interesting courses on Australia's running calendar, with participants running past elephants and lions towards the finish line at NAB RunWest, Western Sydney’s largest community fun run which is back for 2021.
We are delighted to announce that NN Running Team marathon superstar Eliud Kipchoge will compete at the NN Mission Marathon in Hamburg on April 11.
In 2021 the ASB Christchurch Marathon will step back in order to move forward. For the first time since the earthquakes, participants will run on the traditional two lap course, and for the first time ever, the event moves to the earlier date of April 11th.
Aged 29, the tall endurance runner has made rapid progress over the past couple of seasons and last month smashed his marathon PB by more than six minutes to record 2:11:07 at the Austrian Marathon Championships in Vienna and dip below the Olympic qualification standard.
A new, fresh and exciting running event is coming to Melbourne this year which will be supporting Mental Health.The inaugural Run the TAN 2021 Annual Showcase Event will be held at The Tan Track in Melbourne  on Saturday 24th April 2021.
Athletics ACT, are initiating a new race concept in early Jannary, utilising the amazing Stromlo Forest Park for races ranging from 1km (junior) to 5km (senior). The races will be fast, as athletes cruise around the Stephen Hodge Criterium Cycling Circuit, at Stromlo.

Athletics Australia is pleased to announce the expansion of its High-Performance department, with the addition of three new positions to its structure. Previously Head of High-Performance Systems, Andrew Faichney will move into the role of General Manager - High Performance, while Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson will re-join the Athletics Australia family as Technical Athlete Consultant. Leisel Jones will bring her passion for athlete wellbeing to the role of Athlete Wellbeing & Engagement Coordinator.

ASICS Australia have announced the inaugural ASICS World Ekiden 2020: the ultimate team challenge that will see teams of up to six people from all over the world come together to complete a combined marathon. Inspired by a century of Japanese running culture, the race will be split into six legs of varying distances, making it perfect for runners of all abilities and experience.
Shura Kitata from Ethiopia has won the 2020 London Marathon in a sprint finish, out kicking Kenya's Vincent Kipchumba, to stop the clock at 2:05,41, on a cold rainy day in London. Sisay Lemma from Ethiopia was 3rd, just behind in 2:05.45. Kitata and his challenges add intrigue and depth to the world marathon rankings; showing the crazy depth go talent at a global level.
