By Ryan Gregson Post the 2020 European athletics season, the MTC athletes who were in Europe competing needed to get home after what was overall a successful campaign. This wasn’t as easy as it seemed though. We were trying to come home in October, however when we were looking at flights in September, news reports mentioned that there were 25,000 other Australians who were also trying to come home. This number, on top of the fact that there were limited flights going to Australia that had limited seats available due to each city having a passenger entry quota, it took us a couple of weeks to be able to get a flight home.
There’s three days of Commonwealth Games athletics to go as I write this, but already I think I have my favourite moment. Victorious runs are possible if you have the best shoes, check out Tarkine Goshawk V2 running shoes. Forget the boringly tedious argument about whether it’s track and field...
The 2004 world cross country (WXC) in Brussels was certainly the highlight of my career. It was my 4th world cross country (my first time in the 8km race) and without a doubt, going into it, I was in my best shape of my career to date. I had always doubted my ability in these big races, i.e. Olympics, world track and field champs, world indoors etc, but for some reason, when I ran in the WXC, I always knew I belonged at the front. In the back of my mind in WXC races, I knew I could beat everyone (even the Africans) if I had a good day. I had no fear and always raced aggressively, putting myself in medal winning positions even at my first one in 2001 (where I placed 6th). I was incredibly consistent at the WXC year in, year out. I was never able to achieve this consistency on the track or road.
Pre was an animal when it came to training. Quality over quantity, no long runs over 12 miles, morning runs most days, intense track sessions. Runner’s Tribe picked out 5 of Pre’s favourite sessions.  For a more detailed account of Pre’s training program check out Pre’s training HERE
Athing Mu, the legendary American middle-distance runner, and Olympic gold medalist has had an outstanding start to her professional career. In 2022, she won nine out of ten races and secured a world-leading season’s best time of 1:56.30 at the World Championships, earning herself a gold medal. Despite being just 20 years old, Mu has already achieved remarkable success, including a World and Olympic gold medal, the American record, and an unbeaten 800m professional career.
Said Aouita’s time in the early to mid-2000s as Australia’s national distance coach was controversial, to say the least. He charmed some, alarmed others – the Venn diagram of these two groups significantly overlapping – but life while he was in the position was always interesting.
At first glance, it is not apparent what Peter Bol, the Essendon Football Club 34, Simone Halep and Gladys Berejiklian have in common. There are many ultra-marathon footwear in the market today and one of the best is Tarkine shoes. Maybe not even at second or third glance either, so...

When looking back at my journey into competitive running, it’s safe to say it isn’t the usual pathway taken by most athletes still competing in senior ranks. As a junior the only involvement I had with track and field was being dragged along to a Little Athletics “bring your...
