It’s been a long time between drinks, friends of Runner’s Tribe. A lot has happened since I last wrote on this platform but one thing has not changed is my love for this sport. As a community we have been battered and bruised with the fun sponge that is...
Who do you reckon would be Australia’s best athlete? The answer, I suspect, would depend on how you look at it. Some would say it has to be an Olympic or world champion, a world record breaker, or perhaps both. Others might look at longevity, consistent excellence over a period of years. Then there’s the impact of a single performance: Ralph Doubell’s world record-equalling win in the 800 metres in Mexico City, Herb Elliott’s smashing world record victory in the 1500 in Rome, Cathy Freeman withstanding the crushing build-up of pressure to win the 400 in Sydney.
Only over the past two years have I started racing the 800m, training with my squad coached by Peter Fortune. I didn’t come from the typical little athletics background, I mostly just played team sports until I got halfway through high school and found my love for running. I’m...
A column by Len Johnson – Runner’s Tribe Out of Africa, always something new, wrote Pliny the Elder back in the first century A.D. Pliny was referencing a quote from the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, but if you paraphrase slightly to “out of Africa, always something in the news,” then you’ve just...

Hall showed her confidence and strength, going with the pace maker and gapping the rest of the field by a clear 20 metres.  She was only passed on the home straight by Ethiopia's Freweyni Gebreezibeher, who was 4th at the Tokyo Olympics.

What does it feel like to run 650km+ along the toughest trail Australia has to offer? We’re not sure yet – but on the 21st of November, Giles Penfold and I will begin our journey to find out. We call our mission – 655fortakayna.
I began my career as a recreational runner after finishing up as a competitive swimmer of 12 years. I have now been running for three years and am a runner with Boobs on the Run (BotR).
Olympic or world champions at 1500 metres all. Some of them both. But what else do most of them have in common? They never ran the short race at the world cross-country championships or, if they did, did so without great success.
