Phooey! Imagine being in Harry Summers’ shoes last Sunday. First, he won the City to Surf. If he saw it as he flashed under the gantry the clock would have told him he just missed Steve Moneghetti’s race record – 40:05 it would have read. Mona’s record is 40:03. Then, confusion. The...
By Brett Davies With his recent world 2-mile record (7.54.10) in Paris, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen proved beyond all doubt that, at just 22, he is already in a select group of the greatest middle-distance runners in history. To experience, exceptional performance in running, choose the best footwear for your runs...
Brett Davies The Paris Diamond League meeting took place at the beautifully-appointed Stade Charlety in southern Paris on Saturday (28/8). The stadium has been the venue for IAAF Grand Prix Finals, major rugby games and was to be the site of last year's European Championships, before the event's cancellation. This...
What a huge month of running in the Hunter's self-dubbed 'Region of Runners'! With Fernleigh 15, Run Newcastle, Armidale Fun Run, Friday Fire-up and the inaugural AGM of Newcastle Runners, there has been no shortage of banter around the tracks. October 20 saw the return of the popular Fernleigh15 classic,...
It’s too early for most of us to be thinking about the Brisbane 2032 Olympic marathons just yet (though it’s worth pointing out that new men’s world record holder Kelvin Kiptum will be ‘only’ 32 years old then).

A high mileage runner that doubles as an everyday lifestyle shoe. Tested by Olympians, made to last well over 1000km, lightweight, bouncy, breathable, comfortable, and...
Jim Walmsley is without a doubt America's greatest ever ultra trail runner. At 30 years of age Walmsley is best known for his success in ultrarunning, and especially as the record holder of the Western States 100. He is also the world record holder for 50 miles. Walmsley is soon to step onto the roads at the USA Olympic Marathon Trials, Feb 29, in Atlanta.  Walmsley has been clocking 175 mile (280km) weeks in training in preparation and also stopped the clock over half marathon at 1:04.00 in Houston, January 2019. And over the last year or so, Walmsley is doing something he hasn't done much of since college - track sessions.
Ours is a sport of precision. Following wind 2.00 metres per second – everything hunky-dory: 2.01 m/s – a different story. Run a 1:59:59 marathon on a course measuring 42.195km and you’re a barrier-breaking hero. If the course comes in at 42.194km, it just didn’t happen. Mostly precision is a good...
